A Poem for the Ones Who Wonder Why
What does it mean to want otherwise?
SloDos are an invitation to mindful communication, an opportunity to open channels of awareness within ourselves, between each other, and with the divine. Here’s this week’s prompt.
I Have Heard
Humans are
furious angels
our wings nailed
to the ground
I do not think so
I know real angels and I know
that I am
like a stone cherub looming
out of night’s blackness
perched atop a
moss-covered sepulcher
in a New Orleans cemetery
pitted streaked
by years of
target practice
candle smoke
Placid crumbling-faced
voodoo-stained
Granite fingers curved in
perpetual petition
I do not think so
I know real angels and I know
that they
never wonder why they
do what they do
and never wish to be
elsewhere doing otherwise
